Bed Bug

Bed bugs usually hide in the crack and crevice, they come out to suck blood while people are sleeping. They make people not to be able sleep well. People are zero tolerance to bed bugs. Adult bed bugs are oval, reddish-brown, with a body length of 4-5mm, width of about 3mm, and thickness of about 0.5mm.  Larva bed bugs are light brown with body length of 1-2mm. The picture below is a procedure of the metamorphosis from an egg to a female adult which can lay eggs.

Do you know some interesting and surprise facts of bed bugs?
1. Mating process of bed bugs is called traumatic insemination. Males inject their sperm directly into the abdomen of females, using a syringe-like organ, but this process can damage the exoskeleton of the females, so they run away from the males. That is why we often find the female bed bug in some inexplicable places.
2. Human DNA can persist for up to several days in a drop of blood, So the bed bugs can help police investigator in forensic hematophagy.
3. Bed bugs are strict hematophagous(eating blood), they can only survive with hot blooded host and are particularly fond of humans. This can greatly limit their food source. Comparison with other insects, bed bugs are slow to reproduce, each adult female produces about one egg per day, A common housefly lays 500 eggs over three to four days. Each bed bug egg takes 10 days to hatch and another five to six weeks for offspring to develop into an adult.
4. Bed bugs are able to develop resistance to chemical pesticide.
5. Some important information need to know: bedbug size is like an apple seed, its color is from white(no feed) to dark brown. They can hide in the bed or sofa frame, mattress gap, crack of moulding wood.

How to know if you are infected by bed bugs
1. Feeling bitten occasionally, having some small itching red bumps with 5-10mm on the skin, turning over the bed frame and mattress, you can find some water-soluble black spots (can be wiped away with water, this is bed bug excrement) or 1-5 live bed bugs. These signs indicate that you have been moderately or mildly infected by bed bugs. At this time, bed bugs have not spread to a large area. They are usually hidden within one meter where people are sleeping, mainly in the gap of the mattress and the bed frame.
2. Feeling bitten often(a lot of elder people do not respond to being bitten), having many small itching red bumps on the skin, turning over the bed frame and mattress, you can find a lot of water-soluble black spots or a lot of live bed bugs and larvae. These signs indicate that you have a moderate to severe infection of bed bugs. At this time, the bed bugs have spread in a large area. They are often hidden in crevices of headboard or footboard of bed, in the gaps of mattresses or bed frame, in the bedside table, in the crack of moulding board near bed, in the curtain near the bed, and in the sofa where people often sit.

Once infected with bed bugs, whatever it is a mild or severe infection, something has to be done immediately. The correct processing method is as follows:
1. Wash the infected bed sheets, quilt cover, and pillowcase with hot water. Then they must be dried in a dryer.
2. Spray pesticides in the infected area. You can find liquid insecticides, aerosol insecticides, and powder insecticides on the market. The main ingredient of these insecticides is pyrethroid. Some of insecticides use nicotine insect growth inhibitors (the major ingredient is organophosphate which is banned to use indoor in many countries). Bed bugs will become resistant if pyrethroid and nicotine are used for a long time. Therefore, multiple spraying treatments are required to kill bed bugs.
3. There are also fungal pathogenic spores bed bug killer, which are biological products. The principle is to spray fungal spores that make bed bugs infected by fungi and died. This product is harmless to humans. The disadvantage is that the insecticidal effect is slow and the reliability is relatively lower.

PCO LAB provides a bed bug killer whose active ingredient is the liquefied diatomaceous earth and essential oil. It can form a coating on the surface of the insect body to suffocate the bed bug. It is a physical insecticide, non-toxic and no side effects.  Bed bug cannot develop resistance. This spray can be used together with the Trio Combo Bed Protector, Dual Layer Sofa Protector, and Interceptor Ring provided by POC LAB to solve bed bug issue at once.
